Welcome to this week's EmPath newsletter.
This time, we bring you a report from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Through the "Hololive English Collaboration Café," where virtual culture originating in Japan intersects with local creative culture, we will showcase how digital culture transcends borders and creates new connections.
Hololive English Collaboration Cafe @ DOKO KOKO CAFÉ (Kuala Lumpur)
On December 8, 2025, a collaboration café for hololive English , a global VTuber group produced by hololive Production, was held at "DOKO KOKO CAFÉ (Lalaport Bukit Bintang City Centre, BBCC)" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This event was a themed cafe based on the concept of "Cyberpunk Maid," and the interior was decorated with futuristic neon colors and digital-style decorations, creating an immersive space that made you feel as if you had stepped into another world. Visitors enjoyed limited-edition menus inspired by the characters, purchased original goods, took photos, and spent their time as they pleased.
A key feature of this event was that it was a place where Japanese virtual entertainment culture and Malaysian pop culture directly intersected . Held in a popular cafe in the international city of Kuala Lumpur, the event strongly conveyed how digital culture is spreading and becoming established in Southeast Asia. At the same time, it was impressive to see how cultural exchange between Japan and Malaysia is naturally deepening through entertainment.
"Through this collaboration, I realized that virtual entertainment and fan communities are expanding beyond national borders. It felt like it was more than just a fan event; it was breathing new life into the Malaysian cultural scene. The fact that such international pop culture exchanges are taking place in Kuala Lumpur is proof that this city is becoming an important hub for global creative culture."
